HKJU Sports Day and Annual Dinner 2026

Reconnecting in Toronto: Highlights from the 26th HKJU Joint Universities Annual Event

Living in Canada brings its own set of adventures, but nothing warms the heart quite like gathering with fellow Hong Kong alumni to share memories, laughter, and a sense of home. The 26th Hong Kong Joint Universities (HKJU) annual gathering in Toronto was a resounding success, bringing together familiar faces and new friends for a day full of sport, music, and community spirit.

Daytime Energy: The Joint Universities Sports Day

The excitement kicked off earlier in the day with our high-energy Sports Day. Alumni squared off in friendly competition across badminton and pickleball matches, featuring an epic showdown between the two big joint university team alliances. While the matches were spirited, the camaraderie on the court was the real highlight.

A huge thank you to Exco David Cheung for seamlessly coordinating the sports event and keeping everyone moving!

Evening Celebration: 230+ Alumni Across 9 Universities

As evening set in, over 230 alumni across 9 Hong Kong universities gathered for the annual dinner, filling more than 20 tables. The energy in the room was incredible.
Key highlights of the banquet included:

  • HKETO Sponsorship: We were honored to have representatives from the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office (HKETO) join us as our sponsor for the evening.
  • Photo Contest Results: Excitement filled the room as we officially announced the winners of our very first photo contest.
  • Alumni Performances: Our talented alumni took the stage, featuring beautiful live performances including traditional Guzheng playing and heartfelt group sing-alongs.
  • Passing the Baton: The evening concluded with the traditional handover ceremony, as the rotating HKJU chairmanship officially passed from HKUST to HKBU for the upcoming year.

Special thanks to our incredible MCs, Kristy and Alan, whose professionalism and charm kept the program running smoothly all night.

Warm Reunions at the HKUST Table

Our HKUST table(s) was vibrant with 16 members sharing stories, catching up on recent life updates, and bridging past and present connections.

It was wonderful to reconnect with old friends like Raphaella, who dedicated so much time to helping our alumni community during her student days and is now thriving as an academic professional. We were also thrilled to spend time with our current Executive Committee (Exco) members – many of them are recent arrivals who moved to Toronto after 2021 and have jumped right into serving the HKUSTAAO in their very first session.

A massive shout-out to Exco member Christina Ng, the undisputed MVP of HKJU coordination. Leading two separate subcommittees to pull off a seamless event, her dedication made the day unforgettable.

Looking Ahead & Staying Connected

With the economic climate in Canada presenting its share of challenges this year, our thoughts are with our entire alumni family. We send our warmest wishes to everyone for strong job security, good health, and peace of mind in the months ahead.
