Blog Recap: A Warm Reunion at Prof. Lee’s: HKUST Alumni Social Group Event
Editor: Hermes, Nov 12, 2023
The HKUST Alumni Social Group recently organized a memorable house visiting event at Prof. Steve Lee’s residence, fostering connections among alumni in Canada. Prof. Lee, a former HKUST mechanical department faculty member since 1996, shared insights from his teaching career, experiences in economics, Hong Kong affairs, and his philosophy inspired by the concept of “上善若水”. The event was a vibrant mix of academic exchange and social interaction, with alumni from various fields like IT, mechanics, and science engaging in meaningful conversations and career support.
The evening was not just about academic discussions; it also had a familial touch with the surprise visit of Prof. Lee’s daughter and grandsons, adding a delightful element to the gathering. Despite the chilly weather, the warmth of camaraderie was palpable among the attendees.
A highlight of the event was the Canadian-style BBQ, with a menu featuring steak, chicken wings, sausages, and an array of vegetables, topped off with Karawtha French vanilla ice cream on grilled pineapple. The BBQ team, led by Alan and Brian, did an exceptional job in food preparation and cooking, making the evening even more enjoyable.
Looking ahead, the AAO is excited to announce the next professor visiting and academic sharing session with Prof. Hung from Ontario Tech University, scheduled for November 20th. This event promises to be another enriching experience for the alumni community.
Special thanks to Christina for her excellent organization of the event, and to Prof. Lee for hosting us at his welcoming home. The event was a testament to the strong bonds within the HKUST alumni community in Canada, and a reminder of the importance of staying connected, no matter where life takes us.
