🌟 A Summer of Connection: HKUSTAAO’s 2025 AGM & Alumni Reunion🌟
Date: Jul 19, 2025
Time: 3:00 PM to 10:00 PM
Venue: Party room at 5500 Yonge Street, North York
Thank you for joining us for a meaningful day of fun, food, and forward-thinking!
On July 19, 2025, the HKUST Alumni Association of Ontario (HKUSTAAO) hosted a truly unforgettable summer gathering—our annual reunion and AGM. We’re still smiling thinking about all the warm hugs, inspiring conversations, and vibrant new faces we welcomed into the HKUST family here in Toronto.
Event Highlights:
- An Afternoon of Games & Connection: We kicked things off at 3:00 PM in the party room at 5500 Yonge Street, where about 20 alumni, family members, and friends joined us for an afternoon of board games and casual mingling. Laughter echoed through the room as new friendships formed and old ones were rekindled over rounds of Codenames, Sushi Go!, and more. This simple, joy-filled start set the tone for the rest of the day.
- Reunion Dinner: Where Stories Were Shared: By dinner, the energy had doubled—literally. Nearly 40 alumni gathered to share a delicious meal and heartfelt stories from their time at HKUST and their journeys in Canada. Whether it was your first event or your fifth, the camaraderie and shared identity made everyone feel right at home.

- A Milestone AGM for HKUSTAAO: At 7:45 PM, we officially opened the 2025 Annual General Meeting with 32 voting members present—meeting quorum and marking a major moment for our association.Under the guidance of meeting chair Christina Ng, we adopted both our new Constitution and By-Laws, laying a stronger foundation for future growth. A key amendment included the removal of the “Core Values” section for now, with plans to finalize them with member input in the next two years. This decision reflects our commitment to being a responsive, member-first organization. We also reviewed past events—like Mid-Autumn, Halloween, Christmas, New Year, and Sports Day—and confirmed our new Executive Committee for 2025–2027, led by incoming President Brian Tsui. Special thanks go to outgoing President Patrick Hung, who has served with passion and vision. Important discussions took place around membership structure. While a $5 CAD annual fee was proposed, members voted to move forward with membership registration at no cost for now, with fee discussion postponed for another year. This allows everyone to participate while giving the new executive team time to explore fair and sustainable funding options. We also passed a motion to begin accepting “Gifts and Contributions”—a new direction for operational funding, now that we are not registered as a nonprofit. Every bit of support helps as we organize events and expand our reach.
- Celebrating Volunteers: As a touching conclusion to the evening, our outgoing president Patrick Hung presented appreciation gifts to volunteers who have helped us flourish over the past year. These tokens of gratitude are just a small reflection of the big impact our volunteers make.
- A Note from Our New President: Newly elected HKUSTAAO President Brian Tsui welcomed members and acknowledged the dedicated volunteer team supporting the chapter. Although currently abroad and unable to attend the AGM, he confirmed that the executive committee is actively enhancing member services and planning future events. The next major gathering, a joint Sports Day and Annual Dinner with HKJU, is scheduled for October 18. Brian also expressed gratitude to former president Patrick Hung for his leadership, and to Christina Ng for her continued contributions, particularly in organizing the AGM. The executive team will focus on improving operations and expanding community engagement in the coming months.
